New Firmware - Version 0632
Last Update: 28/08/2007
A major new firmware revision is available for models 65C, 75, 75E, 75B and 75C. New functions are listed below.

Set-up and Configuration

User-Friendly Set-Up:
The set-up can be displayed either in text mode or in graphical mode. Both have the same appearance but the graphical mode offers improvement for flat-screen monitors and supports a mouse.

'Quick set-up' as a 'wizard':
Quick Set-Up has added intelligence making setup far more intuitive, especially for Windows, Citrix and serial users.

The Session Manager:
When no sessions are connected an 'idle screen' is displayed called the 'Session Manager'. Two styles are available:
   - Classic: a text-based screen summarising the available sessions (similar to existing turquoise screen)
   - Desktop: icons are displayed on an Axel Desktop representing available sessions. These sessions can be opened using the mouse or the existing hot-key.

USB Touch Screen:
USB touch screens are now supported. (Mainly Elotouch and Microtouch).
Reminder: no development effort is required to support the touch screen. Touch Screen events (touches) are automatically remapped by the terminal into mouse events (left click). This lets all applications use the touch screen.

Windows Connections

Improved Performance:
RDP/ICA display performance has been significantly improved with gains of up to 50%. (Compared to 0521a firmware).

RDP/ICA Printers:
Up to three 'redirected printers' are supported by a single RDP or ICA session. (Previously only one printer was supported). In addition the settings of a redirected printer are declared at the auxiliary port level. This avoids having to declare the same printer multiple times for each RDP/ICA session.

VNC Connections

Hextile Cache:
With former firmware display updates were mapped directly on the screen. With this new feature the display update is first built in local terminal memory and then displayed. This does not actually increase performance, but provides a better ‘feel’ to the screen update.

'Double Screen' Support:
The new DualVNC mode allows a double-width VNC display to be controlled by two terminals. One handles the left side, the other the right side. Keyboard and mouse are only controlled by the left-side terminal.
For example two terminals with a 1024x768 display can control a 2048x768 virtual display.

Text-Based Connections

Programmable Function keys:
More memory is available to program function keys. For example 5250 and 3270 emulations can store more keystrokes per function key (RECORD function).

Programmable Sequences:
It's now possible to program any keys on a per session basis.
   - 'Text Emulation': previously only a selection of keys could be re-programmed – now any key can be reprogrammed.
   - 5250 or 3270: a macro keyboard function (Field+, Field-, System...) can be programmed into any keyboard key.

RS232 Serial Mode

TCP/IP Axel terminals can be used as dumb serial terminals (baudrate up to 115200bds). The new Quick Set-Up allows the terminal to be easily set in serial mode. Two concurrent serial sessions can be configured concurrent to a TCP/IP session.

Administration

Remote Control (Shadowing Text Emulations):
The administrator is now able to take control of a Text-Emulation session (for example ANSI, VT220...). When remote control is started, the administrator sees the same screen as the user and may even take control of the user's session. Note: this feature is not supported by 3270 & 5250 emulations.

Auto-configuration at each boot time:
Currently the auto-configuration works for non-configured terminals. We have added the ability for a configured terminal to automatically download a new config file/firmware if available and automatically load it.
   - If enabled but no new firmware or config file is available this function times out and the terminal boots normally using existing settings
   - the AxRM location can be manually set or automatically found (by DHCP).
This is useful to automate changing a number of terminals if for example a new server is added.
