A
new release of Axel Remote Management is now available.
AxRM V3 Benefit
The main benefit relates to the handling of the terminal database. AxRM V3 offers two methods:
- By a text file,
- By MS-SQL.
With AxRM V2, only the "text file" method is available. This method is very simple and efficient, but concurrent access is limited (the first user’s permissions are read/write but all other users are read only). Using MS-SQL allows concurrent access.
Other benefits:
- The maximum number of terminals is now 20000.
- For the 'terminal discovering' function, the text file
containing IP addresses to scan can also contain IP addresses
ranges.
- If terminals with DNS names are discovered , AxRM checks these
names can be actually resolved before adding them to the database.
AxRM V3 Compatibility
Both versions can be run on same host (AxRM V3 does not overwrite
AxRM V2). They share the same registry database but installing AxRM
V3 doesn't change the use of AxRMV2.
When stored as a text file, the terminal database format is the
same with AXRM V2 and AxRM V3. In addition, AxRMV3 offers an easy way to migrate an existing text file database to MS-SQL.
Evolutions
AxRM V2 will continue to be maintained and supported.
But major improvements will be available only with AxRM V3. For example, we are soon to release an embedded VNC server (for remote shadowing) will be available. Only AxRMV3 will offer a VNC client.
